Parish Development Committees

The PDC is a partnership of stakeholders drawn from local businesses, civil society, elected officials (members of parliament and councillors), state agencies and other groupings, which coordinates and monitors the development processes at the local level. Additionally, a  manual  entitled  “The  Reformed  System  of  Governance  in Jamaica” was prepared in an effort to clarify the roles of the respective players in the governance process.

The Ministry of Local Government & Community Development in conjunction with the SDC and NAPDEC continued to assist the 11 active PDCs in strengthening its linkages through direct and deliberate action with regard to governance at the local level.   Reinforcement activities include conducting routine assessments, provision of the requisite workshops and funding to support the committees. Through these activities the PDCs engaged their respective communities in programmes and projects which foster community empowerment.
